About the event

In the modern world of publishing, responsibility for marketing a book falls largely on the shoulders of the author but it can be a daunting task for those who are new to book promotion. This tutored retreat will introduce authors to some ideas on how to market their book and the best way to maximise their efforts. From working with bloggers to writing to a PR brief, the weekend will give you confidence to go and out and push your book like a pro.

Led by tutors, Emma-Claire Wilson and Julie Morris, the weekend will be a mix of group tutorials and exercises in the morning, with afternoons free to write, relax or socialise as wished. Each guest will also be give the opportunity to have  one-to-one sessions with both Emma-Claire and Julie, during which they can obtain more specific guidance on how to promote their individual work. Perfect for debut authors or anyone new to book promotion.

Please use our enquiry form for more details or to book.

About the Tutors

Emma-Claire Wilson has spent the last 20 years working in various areas of the media; starting her career as a journalist, she quickly worked her way up through the industry. Emma has experience working in copywriting, feature writing and even radio news broadcasting. These days she focuses much more on the longer written word, with her first novel currently out on submission with publishers.

As founder and editor of The Glass House online magazine, Emma loves nothing more than helping people get their stories and words out into the world, and has worked with many writers and authors over the years to build their portfolio and help them find their way into the world of media. Helping other writers succeed is a major passion of hers, so it's little surprise that she also loves her work as a freeland Editor and mentor for up and coming authors.

Julie Morris is a former corporate lawyer with a Top 100 firm and, until 2018, ran her own travel consultancy business, both of which roles required confidence in the art of marketing and selling a product. A lifelong book lover and collector, she has been running her popular book blog, A Little Book Problem, since January 2017.

Over that time, she has worked with hundreds of authors and numerous blog tour organisers, PR professionals and publishers to promote books in every genre. Julie has published in excess of a thousand posts on her blog, gained a dedicated following across all her social media platforms and delivered a number of seminars on working with book bloggers. She was awarded the Media Star of the Year Award by the Romantic Novelists' Association in 2020.
